Associate Degree in Computer Technology

Computer technology is such a broad field that it almost defies definition. However, because it is so expansive, it is next to impossible to thrive in today's economy without a firm foundation in computers and their many applications. With an associate degree in computer technology, you can enter the marketplace with a deeper understanding of how to harness computers and software to solve a host of business, social, and science-related problems.

What Can an Associate Degree in Computer Technology Teach You?
Although there is no shortage of specializations and disciplines within the broader computer technology field, many students start their associate training with computer science, basic programming, productivity software (e.g. word processors & spreadsheets), basic networking, and database management. In subsequent modules, it is possible to focus on specific areas of computer technology, depending on your desired career path. An aspiring software engineer, for example, might take additional classes in computer-aided design (CAD), art, and programming. Similarly, an aspiring networking technician might opt for more advanced courses in switching, routing, and wireless technologies.

What Can You Do with an Associate Degree in Computer Technology?
You can use your associate degree as a standalone certification to launch any number of computer-related careers in various fields including repair, maintenance, installation, IT support, software design, and Web design. Or you can apply your training to augment pre-existing skills in medicine, business, education, and countless other disciplines. Suffice to say that there are very few careers out there that do not benefit from additional computer expertise. Whether you want to work as an in-house IT advisor or you want to launch your own start-up in furniture manufacturing, having a better grasp of computer technology is almost always an asset.
